BBQ Jalapeno and Cheddar Stuffed Burgers

Thursday, May 20, 2010

I love this recipe because it is so versatile. You can stuff these burgers with swiss cheese and mushrooms or sauteed onions and green peppers or bacon and cheddar or try a variety of different cheeses such as monterary jack, blue cheese, or cheddar. I have seen recipes that use cream cheese with jalapenos, but hubby likes cheddar and jalapenos so that is the combination I used. Add your favorite BBQ sauce to the meat for some great BBQ flavor. I also added more cheese on top for more cheesy flavor. A great change to the traditional burger and just in time for grilling season. I am so glad we have leftovers today. Yum!

BBQ Jalapeno and Cheddar Stuffed Burgers

Ingredients:
1 large jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
8 slices fat free cheddar cheese
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 (2 1/4 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup BBQ sauce (more if desired)
1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons fresh minced garlic
8 hamburger buns, split

Directions:
Set grill to medium heat. Oil the grill grates.
In a bowl combine the ground beef with onion soup mix, garlic, BBQ sauce and worcestershire sauce.
Divide into 16 equal portions.
Pat out each portion to about 1/3-inch thickness (can make a little larger if desired).
Divide diced jalapeno peppers amongst eight of the meat patties. Then cut each slice of cheese into 4 pieces and place the 4 pieces on top of the jalapeno pepper on each patty.
Top with remaining patties, pressing down the edges to seal the meat together.
Grill for about 10 minutes per side or until well done (do NOT press down on the burgers while cooking or this will make the cheese come out).
Serve on buns with favorite toppings.

Servings: 8
