The Best Doggy Biscuits

I made these cute little dog biscuits for my four legged best friend Peanut. He is still a puppy and he sure does love his treats, so I decided to try and make some instead of buying some. The only downfall to these biscuits is that they must be eaten within about four days otherwise they will get moldy. They do not have any preservatives like the store bought ones. What I decides to do is just set aside enough for four days and freeze the rest. They only take about an hour to defrost. Try experimenting with a variety of flavors. This time I used chicken broth and peanut butter. Next time I think I will try adding about 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and beef broth just to add some variety.

Introducing Peanut, my King Charles Cavalier

The Best Doggy Biscuits

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 cup chicken or beef broth
1/2 cup peanut butter

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet.
In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour and cornmeal. Mix in the oil, egg, peanut butter and chicken broth to make a soft dough that is not too sticky. You may add more flour if needed. Roll dough into balls, and place on the prepared cookie sheet. Flatten slightly.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until nicely browned and firm. Cool completely, then store in an airtight container. Makes 40 treats.

  1. Cool idea! They turned out so cute. Lucky dog!

  2. I always want to make my puppys treats...but I never get around to it! Your's look great and one day I will get around to making them...hopefully ;-)
